Brokeback Mountain Review

Finally giving into the hype, Kim, Maddie, and I sat down to see what the big deal was about this movie. Ang Lee won best director for this one, and Heath Ledger got a best actor nomination. What do I think about it? Ehhh, honestly it didn't wow me. Granted, the nature scenes of Wyoming were great, but the storyline just seemed to meander without any real direction or purpose. Okay, I get that they were gay in the 70's and that they're cowboys and cowboys aren't supposed to be gay. Were they supposed to be tragic heroes? I didn't feel overly sympathetic for Ennis (Heath's character) or for Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal). Both of them were unabashed adulterers and both abandoned their families and kids. Fine you're gay, but being gay doesn't give you a license to cheat on your wife and leave your family.

Good points: nice scenery, original concept, and a surprisingly pleasant looking Anne Hathaway until she gets the weird hairdo.

Bad points: see above.

6 out of 10.

You know what's funny? My old coworker is really gay, and he actually was a cowboy. He hates it when I tell people that, but that is like the pinnacle of macho americana. I don't hate gays, but watching dudes kiss makes me flinch and almost vomit. I even have plenty of gay friends, and one girl i went out said she was possibly lesbian....i hope that wasn't my fault.

My theory is that the more macho you think you are, the more likely you are to be gay.

I think gay people could just about look like anyone.

LOL - I dunno about your macho-gay link their pachoo lol. I would agree that the more "macho" you are, the more insecure you may be about your sexuality?
