Camp Pendleton Mud Run

Last weekend, I ran in the Camp Pendleton 10K "Mud Run". It's a fun offroad race which features mostly dirt trails crossing through two rivers, a lake, and three or four mudpits. Our company sponsored two teams, the veterans who ran the race last year, and the newcomers (myself included) running the race as newbies.

At the starting point waiting for the race to begin. I'm the guy in the right-center of the frame wearing black shorts and a grey t-shirt.

Some goofballs dressed in the Lucha Libre garb.

The "mudpit" near the end of the run.

The team's score is based on when everyone crosses the line...so in essence your team is as fast as the slowest guy.

At the finish line. I'm the dude in the foreground. Total team time 1 hour 45 minutes. Fortunately I did not come in last :).

These pictures were taken by my coworker's parents. The "official" pictures haven't been posted yet so hopefully those will show more of the course.

Blogs and Life

As you may have noticed, I have not posted anything significant for the past 3-4 months. The obvious reason would be that with the birth of Maddie, my mind has been preoccupied with diapers, milk, onesies, and poop. But alas, that is not the real reason why this blog has gotten stale. Since July, yours truly has moved up from an engineer to managing 2 departments. I honestly would have been content being an engineer for the rest of my life, but this opportunity proved too interesting and challenging not to pass up. So here I am, spending most of my day no longer sitting at my computer number crunching and analyzing problems, instead I am disciplining, encouraging, purchasing materials and supplies, organizing work areas, and resolving employee problems. Ironically not much different that what a parent would do.

I do however, intend to blog more frequently, primarily to vent what feels like a 5-fold increase in stress. I'm not sure when the next DVD review will be, since our latest Netflix arrival, Finding Neverland, has sat on our shelf gathering dust for nearly 2 months.
