Acura LA Bike Tour

This coming Sunday, I am planning to ride the Acura LA Bike Tour, which is basically a 26-mile ride on the LA marathon course. What's cool about the ride is that it takes you through some of the varied neighborhoods of Los Angeles - South (central) LA, Highland Park, Korean Town, Little Ethiopia, and the Wilshire district. The ride is easy physically and mentally, as the course is essentially designed for marathon running. The only drawback is that the course at times gets very crowded, especially on the small uphill climbs. Last year I got rear-ended by someone who I believe was from the LA County Sheriff's dept.

So if you're in the LA area and are in good health and possess a decent bike, give it a shot.

Michael Jackson Trial

He looks totally innocent to me.

As my wife will tell you, I am a news junkie. For some reason, I really like reading the news on the internet, no matter how oddball or obscure it is. Speaking of oddball, the Michael Jackson trial has just completed jury selection and will begin opening arguments soon.

Based on what I know of the charges and the evidence, my hunch is that he will be acquitted of all charges.

Toby's 1-Year Birthday in 2001

They grow up so fast...

Angela had requested a puppy picture of Toby, but 2001 is the farthest back I could dig (we have puppy pics, but they are not digitized). Here is a picture of Toby's one year birthday party in September of 2001. Half of you probably find this picture cute, the other half of you think we're basketcases.

It was the first time I ever threw a doggy birthday. As ridiculous as it looks, I look back on that moment quite fondly.

Happy Oblivion back in L.A.

Happy O chomping down on Zankou Chicken.

Last night, Mr Oblivion visited the Chiu residence and we went to eat dinner at Zankou Chicken. They serve one of the best spiced and grilled chicken that I have ever tasted. Included is a garlic-mayo sauce that totally rules.

Kim and Ling-Ling circa 2001

I was searching through my computer at work and ran across this picture I took about 3 years ago of Kim and Ling-Ling. Kim had just moved into our house and we got Ling from an Olde English Sheepdog breeder in Texas.

Ling-Ling has now grown into a 100-pound hippopotamus. Our family believes that if Ling was human, she'd be the cheery plump cheerleader in high school that everyone is friends with.

Kim-ism

Last night, my wife called me "Skinny bone bones". I think she meant to say "Skin and bones Jones".

I thought that was funny.

Where's Hsu-Kwan?

images.google.com search for "Tim Kwan"

Where did the Hsu-Kwan blog go?

edit: Never mind, it's back! Hurrah!

edit: Oh no! Where did it go again?

Blood Pressure

Me in about 30 years (I'm referring to the guy on the right, duh)

Late last week, I paid a visit to my doctor and found my blood pressure to be 125 over 90. After poking around on the web, I found that the average blood pressure for someone my age should be around 120/80.

While not cause for panic, since high-blood pressure runs in the family, I've decided to go for the following weekly goals: minimum 3 times a week of 30-minute cardio activity (planning to increase to 45 minutes + weights) in addition to 3 times a week of yoga/stretching/meditation. I have not created an account yet on fitday.com, but probably will in the near future.

We'll see how things are when I get checked again in 6 months.

Friday Night Lights

When it comes to sports movies, I usually find them very good (Any Given Sunday) or very bad (Space Jam, Remember the Titans). We just watched Friday Night Lights (ironically, on Friday night) and I found it much better than I expected. It's a drama about small-town high school football and all of the pressures that surround it. It just came out on DVD so if you're looking for a decent movie, I recommend this one. The girlies in my house liked it also!
